Celebrating Age

Celebrating Age is a project aimed at celebrating the achievements and aspirations of older people in Telford and Wrekin and at promoting the wide range of regular activities available and suitable for the over 50’s in the local area.

Taking up a regular activity, joining a group or club, can help us to stay socially connected and feel less isolated and lonely. As well as meeting new people and making new friends, it’s an opportunity to learn a new skill, develop existing skills or to go back to enjoying a hobby or activity that we used to do. It also helps us to maintain physical and mental wellbeing.

In 2017 and 2018, the project was run as a week long festival. In 2019 we want Celebrating Age to be relevant all year long.

Our first event this year will be held on Wednesday 19th June 2019, 10am – 2pm, at The Place, Oakengates, TF2 6EP, and will focus on physical activities, gentle exercise, keep fit, dance and sports.  At the event there will be lots of workshops and have a go activities taking place throughout the day and an opportunity to have a go, find out all about what’s on offer, chat to the activity providers and meet new people.

A second event, all about arts, crafts, music & dance, will take place in October, date to be confirmed.

Both events will be free to attend, and booking is not essential. You can drop in throughout the event. There’ll be music, refreshments and a free light buffet lunch.

This year we won’t be publishing a printed programme. A large directory of local groups, clubs and classes can be found on the Senior Citizens Forum website.  There’ll be a printable copy to download shortly, and it will be possible to request a printed copy to be sent by post.
